Major League Table Tennis isn’t only about the players lighting up the court. Behind every team is a coach shaping strategies, instilling discipline, and guiding athletes through the league’s unique challenges. From Golden Points to the Golden Game, these coaches carry the pressure, passion, and pride of their teams into every match.
Season 3 introduces new faces alongside returning leaders, each with their own philosophy and story. Some bring decades of international experience, others are taking on the role for the first time. Together, they represent the evolving heartbeat of MLTT and the spirit of innovation that makes the league unlike anything else in the table tennis world.
Eric Owens - Chicago Wind Coach
Q1: You’ve been both a U.S. National Champion and Pan Am Games Gold Medalist. How do those experiences shape your approach as a coach in MLTT?
I can draw upon those high stakes, high pressure experiences to bring out the best in our players. MLTT is all about pressure, and that’s where we thrive.
Q2: You also have a strong background in neuromuscular science. How does that influence the way you train, condition, and recover your athletes?
I can help our players prepare and recover better with innovative techniques emerging in the field of longevity and optimization science.
Q3: Looking back on MLTT’s first two seasons, what stands out most to you about the Chicago Wind’s journey?
It’s been a tough journey, but we always find ways to refine and improve. Season 3 will be no different. There have been no shortage of challenges, but we are great at reflecting and introspecting to make the necessary steps of winning a championship.
Q4: How do you prepare your players for the intensity of Golden Points and Golden Games, where a single ball can swing the outcome?
Preparation is key so there are no surprises. We play our multiple scenarios so when one of them takes shape, we’ve already run that simulation and know what to do.
Q5: What’s your perspective on the open serve rule—how will it change the dynamics of MLTT matches?
I think it favors a lefty-righty combo. We have 4 leftys on our team for a reason.
Q6: Chicago is known for its sports culture. How does it feel to lead a professional table tennis team in a city with such a rich tradition?
The Chicago Wind is the best sports team in Chicago. It’s only a matter of time for everyone to see it.
Q7: What are your goals for the Wind in Season 3, and what kind of identity do you want to cement for the team moving forward?
The goal is to win the championship with an identity of resilience and perseverance.

One word that defines the Wind? Resilient
The voices of MLTT’s coaches remind us that the league is about more than results — it’s about identity, resilience, and building a culture of excellence. Whether it’s Suzi Battison leading the brand-new Atlanta Blazers, Romain Lorentz transitioning from championship-clinching player to head coach of the Los Angeles Spinners, or veterans like Jörg Bitzigeio and Christian Lillieroos drawing on international experience, each coach brings a unique vision to the table.
As MLTT grows, their leadership ensures the league continues to innovate, inspire, and push table tennis to new heights in the U.S. and beyond. Season 3 promises more drama, more intensity, and more unforgettable moments — and these coaches will be at the center of it all.
