Chicago’s Emmanuel Lebesson (SPINDEX: 2758) has won Player of the Week after one of the most dominant individual weekends in Major League Table Tennis (MLTT) history, the league announced on Tuesday.
Lebesson won all nine of his singles games in Week 7, becoming the first player to accomplish that feat this season. He is now the third player in league history to achieve such a feat, in addition to Taehyun Kim (2760) and Satoshi Aida.
This is the first week in MLTT history that ended with only one player winning Player of the Week instead of two.
Lebesson began his weekend against Bay Area’s Elsayed Lashin (2732) on Friday before facing Los Angeles’ Ľubomir Pištej (2749) on Saturday and Florida’s Daniel Gorak (2704) on Sunday. Only twice did any of his opponents force a golden point, both of which Lebesson won.
“I just think he was absolutely ready to compete this weekend,” Wind coach Eric Owens said after Sunday’s match.
This all-time performance boosted Lebesson’s power rating to 744.7, the 10th-highest rating in all of MLTT.
His nine wins allowed Chicago to leave Hollywood, Fla. without losing a single match, something only the Portland Paddlers (7-2, 125 points) and Carolina Gold Rush (4-2, 61 points) have done this season.
The Wind currently sit as the West Division’s third seed, with a record of 8-4 and 145 points.
Lebesson and the Wind will next play during Week 10 in Willowbrook, Ill., where they will host the Texas Smash (4-2, 74 points), Florida Crocs (3-6, 79 points) and New York Slice (6-3, 101 points) from Dec. 16-18. These matches will be streamed exclusively on Table Tennis TV, which can be found on tabletennis.tv, iOS, Apple TV, Roku and Amazon Fire TV.
