Carolina is the most balanced team in the field, but they’re not going to overwhelm you. Instead, they will out-execute you.

The Carolina Gold Rush will play their semifinal match against the Chicago Wind, who have beaten the Gold Rush twice in Season 3.
Carolina relies on a strong core of players that, together, provide Carolina with some of the best depth in all of MLTT. The Gold Rush have surrounded MVP winners Enzo Angles and Chen Sun with a variety of key players, including Eugene Wang, Edward Ly, Kai Zhang and Wei Wang. They’ll bring that lineup to Championship Weekend against the Chicago Wind.
The Carolina Gold Rush are strong across multiple positions. Sun was the league’s best Singles 2 player this year. Angles and Zhang form one of the league’s formidable doubles tandems. And in singles, Carolina’s biggest strength is its versatility. Angles can play Singles 1 or Singles 4, and can be trusted with tough assignments. Eugene Wang and Ly are interchangeable throughout the lineup.
But none of that matters if the Gold Rush can’t win the Golden Game. Thankfully, they can. They’ve won 11 Golden Games this season, the third-most of any team in MLTT. Sun (60.9% GG), Wei Wang (57.7%), Eugene Wang (53.3%) and Zhang (55.4%) finished Season 3 in the Top 15 in Golden Game percentage. The first three finished in the Top 10. And that’s not even considering Angles (51.9% GG) and Zhang (51.9% GG), both of whom have been Golden Game heroes in seasons past.
With talent like that, Carolina puts the “gold” in not just “Gold Rush,” but in “Golden Game” as well.
The Chicago Wind can easily disrupt them. Chicago starts every match strong, with Season 3 Men’s MVP Robert Gardos often manning Singles 1. They use that momentum to stay aggressive throughout the match, which puts pressure on opponents from the start of every match.
That could spell danger for Carolina, who often struggle when they’re forced to play someone else’s game. It’s why they’ve lost both of their matches against Chicago this season, and why it won’t be any easier their third time around.
If Carolina takes control of their matches early, they have the talent, depth, versatility and Golden Game prowess to win their second consecutive MLTT Championship. But if they can’t, the Gold Rush could be in trouble from April 18-19.
