Portland’s Jens Lundqvist (SPINDEX: 2787) has been named Major League Table Tennis’ Player of the Week for Week 9, the league announced on Monday.
Texas’s Hiromitsu Kasahara (2834), Atlanta’s Kayama Yu (2786) and Los Angeles’s Alexandre Robinot (2726) also received nominations for Week 9 Player of the Week.
Lundqvist won eight of his nine games during Week 9, with his only loss coming in his second game against Robinot on Sunday (8-11). Those eight wins helped the Paddlers become the first team to earn multiple undefeated weekends this season after winning all three of their Week 9 matches.
Those eight wins boosted Lundqvist’s power rating to a league-leading 803.4, which makes him MLTT’s top-ranked player on its official power rankings list. Lundqvist now holds a singles percentage of 80% (12-3) and a Golden Game percentage of 55.6% (25-20) over the entire season.
Lundqvist’s last match with the Paddlers prior to Week 9 was on Sept. 7, the Paddlers’ final match of Week 1. He had a singles percentage of 66.7% (4-2) and a Golden Game percentage of 54.5% (12-10) up until his return on Jan. 9.
Lundqvist is the fourth different Paddler to win Player of the Week in Season 3, which leads the league in the highest number of different winners this season. Kang Dong-Soo (2788) and Kotomi Omoda (2572) won for their respective genders in Week 3, and Sid Naresh (2683) won Male Player of the Week for Week 4.
The Paddlers, who boast a league-leading 10-2 record and 169 points, will return for Week 14 in Charlotte and will face the New York Slice (7-5, 121 points), Bay Area Blasters (5-7, 117 points) and Carolina Gold Rush (4-2, 61 points) from March 13-15 in Charlotte.
These matches will be streamed exclusively on Table Tennis TV, which can be found on TableTennis.TV, iOS, Android, Apple TV, Roku and Amazon Fire TV. Sign up today and receive a 30-day free trial.
