Mohamed Shouman (SPINDEX: 2714) and Chen Sun (2598) of the Carolina Gold Rush have won Male and Female Players of the Week for Week 2, Major League Table Tennis announced on Monday.
This honor marks the first time this season that both winners represented the same team. It’s also the first time all year that two rookies have won the award.
Shouman won six of the nine singles sets he played, and he left Charlotte with a Golden Game percentage of 47.6%. He outperformed several seasoned MLTT veterans in his singles sets, sweeping Atlanta’s Jeet Chandra (2654) and taking two of three from Florida’s Daniel Gorak (2696).
Sun won eight of her nine singles matches and had a Golden Game percentage of 66.7%, and she scored the winning point in Saturday’s Golden Game against Florida. As of Tuesday, Sun is the top-ranked player on MLTT’s power rankings.
The defending champions selected Shouman with their third-round draft pick in the 2025 MLTT Draft. Sun was their second-round selection. They joined a new-look Gold Rush roster that lost several key pieces to their title run, including Hong Lin, Satoshi Aida and Sid Naresh.
Shouman and Sun join Bay Area’s Elsayed Lashin and Florida’s Peiyu Zhu as recipients of these awards this season. This means that three of the four Player of the Week winners so far this season earned these honors in their debut weekend as MLTT players.
The Gold Rush will play again from Oct. 3-5 in Portland, Ore., and will face the Chicago Wind, Los Angeles Spinners and hometown Portland Paddlers. All of these matches will be streamed exclusively on Table Tennis TV.
