Major League Table Tennis heads to Charlotte, North Carolina, from March 13-15, for a pivotal Week 14 showdown at the Charlotte Convention Center, where the playoff race may begin to speed up.

With only two regular-season weekends remaining, every match carries major postseason implications. The Chicago Wind have already clinched the first playoff spot, and the Los Angeles Spinners have been eliminated. That leaves eight teams battling for the remaining positions in both conferences.

Four of those eight teams, the Portland Paddlers, Bay Area Blasters, New York Slice, and Carolina Gold Rush, will compete during Week 14. That’s a mix of Western Conference contenders and Eastern Conference challengers looking to lock up playoff spots.

With six matches in three days, fans can expect fast-paced rallies, strategic coaching decisions, and dramatic Golden Game finishes that define the MLTT team format.

Team Storylines

Portland Paddlers

Coach Christian Lillieroos brings a deep and balanced roster into Charlotte as the Paddlers continue their push in the Western Conference.

The lineup includes strong contributors such as Nikhil Kumar, Hampus Nordberg, Kotomi Omoda, Min Hyeok Kim, Sid Naresh, and Minhyung Jee. That gives Portland flexibility across Singles, Doubles, and the Golden Game rotation.

Portland faces a demanding weekend schedule with three matches, opening Friday afternoon against New York before facing Bay Area and Carolina.

Depth and endurance could play an important role for the Paddlers as they navigate their busy slate.

Bay Area Blasters

The Bay Area Blasters, led by coach Tim Wang, arrive in Charlotte with one of the most aggressive lineups in the league.

Key players include:

  • Elsayed Lashin, a powerful attacker who can end rallies quickly

  • Taehyun Kim, known for explosive forehand pressure thanks to lightning footwork

  • Senura Silva, a steady presence capable of grinding out key points

  • Kwang-Il Baek, a disciplined all-around player

They’ll be without stars Lily Zhang and Jinbao Ma, but they still have a formidable roster without them.

Charlotte also brings an interesting twist for the Blasters. Chopper Angela Guan and Laotian/Swede Johan Hagberg will join the team as free agents for the weekend, giving Bay Area additional lineup options.

Bay Area will face Carolina on Friday night, followed by key matches against Portland and New York.

New York Slice

Coach Adam Hugh leads a roster filled with international experience and tactical versatility.

Their lineup for Charlotte includes:

  • Koki Niwa, the Olympic silver medalist known for his creativity and touch

  • Wenzhang Tao, a steady competitor in high-pressure matches

  • Kaden Xu, a dependable all-round attacker

  • Haeeun Choi, who adds flexibility and Player of the Week pedigree to the lineup

  • Yiran Wu and Jessica Reyes, who provide depth to the squad

New York opens the weekend against Portland before facing Carolina and Bay Area in two critical matchups that could influence the Eastern Conference standings.

Carolina Gold Rush

The Carolina Gold Rush, coached by Alex Yang, will have the advantage of playing with their most complete roster of the season.

Their roster features several key players, including:

  • Enzo Angles, whose aggressive attacking style has produced strong results this season

  • Eugene Wang, an experienced international veteran

  • Sun Chen, known for her tactical control and consistency

  • Wei Wang, Edward Ly, and Kai Zhang, all of whom provide depth throughout the lineup

For the Carolina Gold Rush, Charlotte offers more than just another stop on the schedule. After winning all three of its Week 13 matches in Hollywood, Fla., the team will look to harness the energy of a strong home crowd to continue its push toward the postseason.

The Playoff Picture

The MLTT regular season is entering its final stretch, and the Charlotte weekend could determine several playoff positions.

The Chicago Wind have already secured the first playoff berth, continuing their impressive season.

The remaining teams are battling for the final spots. The top two teams from the Eastern Conference and the top two teams from the Western Conference will advance to Championship Weekend, scheduled for April 18–19 at Table Tennis America in Fremont, California.

With only one regular-season weekend remaining after Charlotte, strong performances this week could allow one, two, or even three teams to secure their playoff positions early.

Every point matters in MLTT. Team standings are determined by total team points earned across singles games, doubles games, and the Golden Game, meaning even a narrow loss can impact the playoff race.

Final Thoughts

Week 14 in Charlotte arrives at a crucial moment in the MLTT season.

For Carolina, the opportunity to play at home could provide a critical boost. Portland looks to strengthen its standing in the West. Bay Area hopes its aggressive lineup can produce key wins, while New York continues its push in the Eastern Conference race.

Three days. Six matches. With the playoffs approaching, the results in Charlotte could shape who ultimately earns the chance to compete for the MLTT Cup in Fremont this April.
