The Spinners will add free agent Ved Sheth (2553) to their active roster as a corresponding move.
Abbasi is one of several Iranian table tennis players who have faced significant challenges entering the United States following the country’s travel ban, which was announced on June 4. The ban fully restricts entry to the United States for residents of 12 countries, which includes Iran.
This is the second roster change the Spinners have made over the last two months, following their release of 2025 second-round pick Choi Hyo-joo due to complications regarding her visa.
The Spinners drafted Abbasi with their fourth-round pick in the 2025 MLTT Draft in April. Abbasi did not make the trip to Portland, Ore., for the Spinners’ opening weekend from Oct. 3-5, and therefore had yet to play in his first MLTT match.
Abbasi was the losing finalist at WTT Feeder Havirov 2025, and he finished in the Round of 16 at WTT Feeder Düsseldorf 2025. He also participated in both WTT Europe Smash 2025 and WTT China Smash 2025 as a qualifier.
Sheth made his MLTT debut on Sept. 5 as a member of the Bay Area Blasters, who added him and Senura Silva as free agents ahead of their Week 1 matches. The Blasters had an open roster spot following that weekend, but they elected to fill it with Silva instead of Sheth.
Sheth is not expected to travel to Pleasantville, N.Y. for the Spinners’ Week 5 matches against New York Slice, Texas Smash and Princeton Revolution.
Those three matches will take place from Nov. 7-9 at Westchester Table Tennis Center, and they will be streamed exclusively on Table Tennis TV.
