Texas’ Hiromitsu Kasahara (SPINDEX: 2769) and New York’s Haeeun Choi (2575) have been named Men’s and Women’s Players of the Week for Week 5, Major League Table Tennis (MLTT) announced on Tuesday.

Choi, who made her MLTT debut during Week 4 in Chicago, has won Women’s Player of the Week for every week she has played. She becomes the first two-time winner of either award during Season 3, as well as this year’s first Player of the Week for two consecutive weekends.

Kasahara won six of his nine singles games, taking two each from New York’s Yiran Wu (2715), Princeton’s Benedek Olah (2769) and Los Angeles’ Kou Lei (2785). He is now the No. 2 player in the league according to MLTT’s official power rankings, trailing only Kang Dong-Soo (2788) from the Portland Paddlers.

Choi won four of her nine singles games against Texas’ Amy Wang (2579), Los Angeles’ Matilda Ekholm (2544) and Princeton’s Jiangshan Guo (2539). She played in four golden points and scored under ten points only once.

Choi wrote her name into the league’s history books on Saturday, winning the ultimate golden point to complete New York’s historic comeback against Los Angeles.

Both New York (6-3, 101 points) and Texas (4-2, 74 points) won two of their three matches during Week 5. New York maintains its top spot in the East Division, while Texas crawls closer to Portland’s (7-2, 125 points) throne atop the West Division.

New York will play its next three matches in Los Angeles from Dec. 12-14 (Week 8) against the Spinners (1-5, 50 points), Atlanta Blazers (0-3, 21 points) and Bay Area Blasters (1-2, 24 points). Texas won’t return until Jan. 9-11, when they play the Spinners, Blazers and the hometown Portland Paddlers.

These matches will be streamed exclusively on Table Tennis TV, which you can find online, on the Apple App Store, or through its channels on Roku, Apple TV and Amazon Fire TV Stick.
