The Florida Crocs have placed first-year player Omar Assar (SPINDEX: 2880) on the Reserve List, Major League Table Tennis (MLTT) announced on Thursday.
The Crocs will sign free agent Andrea Todorovic (2532) to their roster as a corresponding move.
Assar was selected with the third overall pick (Round 1) in the Season 4 MLTT Draft, making him the first of five players the Crocs drafted this offseason. He did not compete with the Crocs when they made their Season 4 debut in Pleasantville, N.Y., during Week 3.
Outside of the United States, the 35-year-old has earned a reputation as one of Africa’s most accomplished table tennis players. Assar has four Olympic appearances, 12 African Championships medals, 13 African Games medals and nine ITTF African Cup medals, and he became the first Egyptian to reach the quarterfinals of the World Championships in 2024.
Assar currently ranks as the No. 27 Men’s Singles player worldwide, with an all-time record of 618 wins and 260 losses (70.4%). He holds the highest international ranking of any player to have earned a Major League Table Tennis roster spot this season, with Bay Area’s Lily Zhang (Women’s Singles No. 33) in second place.
Todorovic competed as a free agent during the Crocs’ Week 3 matches at Westchester Table Tennis Center. She won five Singles games and 10 Golden Game points in her first match weekend of Season 4, earning her a nomination for Week 3 Player of the Week.
The Crocs won all three of their matches in Week 3, one of which came after Todorovic won an Ultimate Golden Point. With those three wins, the Crocs became the second MLTT team to finish a match week without a loss this season.
“It was a really amazing experience,” Todorovic said after Week 3 ended. “I’m so happy that I was able to be part of the team and to help them.”
Todorovic made her MLTT debut in Season 3 with the Atlanta Blazers, who selected her with the 21st pick (Round 3) in that year’s MLTT Draft. She finished Season 3 with a Singles percentage of 33.3% (9-18) and a Golden percentage of 40.4% (21-31).
Todorovic’s power rating of 685.9 currently makes her MLTT’s No. 27 player, the fourth-highest ranking among all women. She ranks second among her Florida Crocs teammates, trailing only No. 5 Jishan Liang (2737).
The Crocs are one of three undefeated teams remaining as of this article’s publication, and they hold the East Division’s No. 1 seed with a 3-0 record and 38 points. They finished last season at the bottom of the league with a 4-14 record and 131 points.
Todorovic and the Crocs will play their next set of matches at Charlotte Convention Center during Week 5. They will face the Portland Paddlers at 4 p.m. ET on Friday, Nov. 13, the Princeton Revolution at 4 p.m. ET on Saturday, Nov. 14, and the Carolina Gold Rush at 2:30 p.m. ET on Sunday, Nov. 15.
