The Chicago Wind are the most dangerous team of the four teams heading to Championship Weekend. Not just because of who they’ve been winning with, but how they win.

Lineup
Coach Eric Owens

Robert Gardos (MLTT No. #4)
Emmanuel Lebesson (#6)
Jeongwoo Park (#16)
Daniel Tran (#37)
Mo Zhang (#39) - Season 2 Female MVP
Sean Zhang (#53)

Their Opponent: Carolina Gold Rush

  • Chicago beat Carolina 18-3 on October 3 (Week 3)
  • Chicago beat Carolina 15-6 on February 1 (Week 11)

The Chicago Wind will be facing the Carolina Gold Rush in the semifinals, a team they’ve defeated twice in convincing fashion this season.

Identity

After a rocky start, the team improved throughout the season. They’ve only lost one match since January began, and that’s because they do not grind. They attack early, build leads and force opponents out of rhythm.

The X-Factor: Emmanuel Lebesson

Lebesson has anchored the Wind’s Singles 4 matches throughout the season. He has a dominant first attack, he’s strong on his serve, and he controls the tempo every time he’s out there.

No one can touch Lebesson at his peak. He’s a multi-time Player of the Week winner, he leads MLTT in Golden Game percentage, and he’s the only player of Season 3 to have won all nine of his Singles games in one weekend. Carolina’s only hope against him is to play him when he’s not at his best. Because if he is, Chicago looks unstoppable.

Why The Wind Can Win

With superstars Lebesson, Mo Zhang and Robert Gardos, Chicago has the best Top Three in all of MLTT. And in some situations, all it takes is three

That’s especially true if the Wind dominate early, which they tend to do. Not many players control Singles 1 like Gardos can, and Zhang awaits any team who manages to survive.

What to Watch

  • Lebesson’s first service games
  • Jeongwoo Park’s ability to secure a third point
  • Whether matches stay close

Chicago has already shown they can dominate elite teams. They just need to do the same for two more matches if they want to win the Season 3 MLTT Championship.
