Carolina’s Enzo Angles (SPINDEX: 2795) has been named Major League Table Tennis (MLTT)’s Player of the Week for Week 12, the league announced on Tuesday.
No other players were nominated for this award. Angles is the first player to earn a unanimous Player of the Week since Week 7, when Chicago’s Emmanuel Lebesson (2790) became the third player in history to win nine Singles games.
Angles won eight of his nine Singles games during Week 12, sweeping Texas’s Joao Monteiro (2714) and Princeton’s Jinxin Wang (2737) on Saturday. His only loss came after his third game against Bay Area’s Jinbao Ma (2756) on Sunday, the last one of his weekend.
These wins make Angles the seventh player this season to win eight or more Singles games in one weekend. He also played in all nine of his team’s Doubles games during Week 12. He won six Doubles games alongside Kai Zhang (2621) and Mohamed Shouman (2655).
Angles now boasts a 52.8% (19-17) winning percentage in both Singles and Doubles. Angles’s power rating of 715.8 makes him the league’s No. 22 player on its official power rankings list.
Angles earns his first Player of the Week nod this season, becoming the third Gold Rush Player to win the award in Season 3. He adds another honor to a shelf of accolades, which include a championship trophy (Season 2), an MVP award (Season 1) and his status as the first-ever draft pick in MLTT history.
In Week 12, the Gold Rush defeated the Texas Smash on Friday before losing to the Princeton Revolution on Saturday and the Bay Area Blasters on Sunday. The Gold Rush now rank as the third seed in the East Division with a 6-6 record and 119 points.
Angles and the Gold Rush will return for Week 13 in Hollywood, Fla. from March 6-8, where they will face the Princeton Revolution on March 6 at 4 p.m. EST, the Florida Crocs on March 7 at 7:30 p.m. and the Los Angeles Spinners on March 8 at 4 p.m. EST.
These matches will be streamed exclusively on Table Tennis TV, which can be found on TableTennis.TV, iOS, Android, Apple TV, Roku and Amazon Fire TV.
