Blazers trade Minhyung Jee, draft pick to Paddlers for Rachel Sung

The Atlanta Blazers have traded Minhyung Jee (2491) and a Season 4 second-round draft pick to the Portland Paddlers for Rachel Sung (2521) in a depth-boosting deal for both teams.

This marks the fourth trade in MLTT history, as well as the first-ever deal involving a woman. This trade is the first to be finalized during Season 3’s official trade window, which expires on Monday at 5 p.m. EST.

Jee holds a 4-5 (44.4%) record in nine singles games with the Blazers, all of which came during Week 2. She is the current No. 47 Women’s Singles player in the world, and was the Blazers’ fifth-round pick in the Season 3 MLTT Draft.

The Paddlers have built their championship-contending roster primarily through trades, which is how they acquired stars Nikhil Kumar (2760) and Sid Naresh (2683). Their third trade adds Jee to a roster that includes Kotomi Omoda (2610), the Female Player of the Week winner for Week 3.

Sung competed in just three games with the Paddlers this season, earning a 1-2 (33.3%) record against Chicago’s Mo Zhang (2591) in those games during Week 4. She finished Season 2 with a 10-8 (55.6%) singles record while splitting time with Omoda.

Sung was the longest-tenured Paddler prior to this trade, having been the team’s third-ever draft pick behind Jiwei Xia (2607) and Kou Lei (2777). Outside of MLTT, Sung represented the United States in the 2024 Summer Olympics.

In their first trade in team history, the Blazers will add an experienced player to compete alongside third-round rookie Andrea Todorovic (2522) in Singles 2 games. Sung will also reunite with former Paddlers teammate Xia as the Blazers look to escape from the basement of the East Division.

Neither player is expected to compete in their new teams’ Week 9 matches, when the Paddlers host the Blazers, Los Angeles Spinners and Texas Smash from Jan. 9-11. All of these matches will be streamed exclusively on Table Tennis TV, which you can watch on tabletennis.tv, iOS, Android, Apple TV, Roku and Amazon Fire TV.
